Backstory:
Rovain was born in the Hidden District of Veriador in a poor family. Her father was a manual worker, while her mother was selling fruits and vegetables. She also had an elder brother, named Bedver. Rovain was five, when he left to work in a far-away city of Aerthor, because a mighty townswoman accused him of stealing, which was of course groundless.
The boy enjoyed working as an ostler for the Aerthorian Royal Family, because he was getting closer to the heiress, Daeris. In the meantime, his sister started to get in trouble. Initial manifestations of Fíriel's power were harmless - igniting and extinguishing candles, slamming doors, levitating tableware... but with the passage of time things started to get more dangerous and ended in completely involuntary wooden temple's arson. Fortunately, no one got hurt, but culprit - at this time seven year old girl - was embedded in urban dungeons. Fíriel knew that people with uncontrolled magical abilities have only two ways: she could start learning how to be a mage or... be burnt at the stake. She had nothing to lose and decided to write a letter to her brother. The girl got an answer written by Daeris herself. From sympathy for Bedver she interceded for her with Annúngilion, Great Master of Taen Angol Academy, who happened to be the Elven maiden's uncle. He took Fíriel under his wings immediately, for free. The girl felt favoured, but couldn't bring herself to like the Master at first. He said that her name was unsuitable for sorceress she was to become and changed it. And so Fíriel's life as Rovain of Veriador began.
Short after the eleventh birthday, Rovain heard about her brother’s death. She had some suspicions, but didn’t want to jump to wrong conclusions, especially when just a few weeks later Daerisqueya, her biggest idol, died in a fire with her whole family, except Master Annúngilion, who was at Academy then.
Events on the island didn’t affect Rovain’s life on the mountain badly, contrary - she was featured once again. Master offered her additional, individual lessons with him. Rov thought that only in this way she'll be able to learn how to control herself. Unfortunately, Rovain’s power exceeded all expectations and had to be blocked. After few days, she received a pendant, in which full power of barrier spell is focused. Master commanded her not to ever take it off - Rovain abides this prohibition to this day. Controlling emotions was still important, because the barrier could be broken by them, so the lessons continued.
When she grew older, Master and his student fell in love. Though sorceress didn’t know about it, he was a womanizer and had lots of mistresses. Their relationship, however, lasted for a whole decade. Then Rovain’s assumptions from many years ago turned out to be correct. Bedver didn’t die in an accident, as did Daerisqueya’s family. Aerthorian heiress was hiding from the world for eighteen years and searched for revenge on her lover's killer - the householder, Annúngilion. The sorceress couldn’t do anything - she arrived too late to save her Master. Rovain's powers released because of her grief and the Great Fire started. Rovain incinerated everything around her... she still regrets it, the terrible death of 382 people, even if nothing could be done to stop her. It wasn’t a deliberate action at all.
After events of this ill-fated night, Rovain’s life changed. No one knew the truth and so she couldn’t be officially accused of anything, but no one wanted to have anything to do with her. In the absence of other choices, she joined a group of dragon hunters. This job wasn’t safe, but well-paid and her companions were great. She still recalls them, even if they disbanded thirty years ago.
Now Rovain is again a well-known and respected member of mages’ community. The sorceress lives in ruins of Taen Angol, renamed to Taen Firn - Mount of the Dead - after the tragedy It’s a kind of reminder - Rovain can’t let something like this happen ever again...
